Social determinants of health (SDOH) - The social, political, economic, and cultural factors that are embedded in our society that influence health. Examples of these "upstream" factors include food security, income inequality, globalization, Environmental Justice, employment, childhood development, health system policies, etc. These non-medical causes affect our health more than medical factors.
Population health - An approach that focuses on improving the health of an entire population or sub-population of people rather than individuals. Improving population health requires the reduction of health inequities between population groups.
